Backstage Winery earns top marks from International Wine Report for 2019 vintage

Backstage Winery earned top reviews from the International Wine Report for six wines from the 2019 vintage.

Here are the reviews for Backstage Winery’s submissions, which were published in December 2022.

  • 2019 Green Room Cabernet (Howell Mountain): 95 points

“Green Room Vineyard sits at above 1400 feet in elevation on Howell Mountain and is producing a full body Cabernet Sauvignon. This expressive Cab leads with a impressive nose and a deep ruby color. Showcasing cherry, raspberry, and plum, and supported by subtle hints of dark chocolate on a very lengthy finish, this wine belongs front and center.”

  • 2019 Backstage Cabernet (Oakville): 94 points

“Backstage Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is a solid Oakville Cab, with a core of blackberry, black cherry and tobacco. This wine is well-balanced, yet it has plenty of depth with levels of complexity. The finish has an oak inlay with subtle hints of sage, but the fruit flavors and aromas are spotlighted throughout. An approachable wine for drinking now, but it will definitely benefit from cellaring for a few years.”

  • 2019 Paradox Cabernet (Oakville): 94 points

“The Backstage Paradox Vineyard Cabernet is bursting with a powerful punch of dark fruits. This Cabernet Sauvignon delivers wild blackberry, black currant and dark earthy notes that set the stage for an enjoyable wine. It offers a nice mineral hint through the finish, with the dark fruits keeping the spotlight.”

  • 2019 Showtime Cabernet (Oak Knoll): 94 points

“Premium Backstage Cabernet Sauvignon from Showtime Vineyard takes the lead with some high notes of ripe plum, blackberry, and red licorice. This wine offers a great encore of rich and velvety hints of chocolate, and a grippy finish of medium tannins, leaving you wanting more. Bravo to this Small Batch Production!”

  • 2019 Vibrato Cabernet (Coombsville): 93 points

“This Backstage Cabernet Sauvignon from Vibrato Vineyards lives up to its surname, with strong and expressive fruit-driven tastes. A medley of blueberries and plum entertain your palate, and finish off with subtle hints of spice. Backstage Cabernet is produced in Coombsville, Napa Valley. It is ready to enjoy now and very approachable for those with a fruit appeal. This beauty will definitely age well with cellaring.”

  • 2019 Marquee Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley): 92 points

“This Pinot Noir from Russian River Valley is sleek and very lively, with juicy black cherry, blackberries and dried rose petals. Medium tannins linger backstage, with hints of vanilla on a long and enjoyable finish. Drink now!”
